DOWAGIAC — Paw Paw won its fourth consecutive Wolverine Conference competitive cheer championship last Wednesday.
Paw Paw scored 756.72 points at the meet at Otsego High School.
Sturgis was second with 702.92 points, while Plainwell finished third with 680.92 points.
Dowagiac set a new school record with its score of 638.50, which earned the Chieftains a seventh-place finish.
Edwardsburg was eighth with 630.90.
“We had our highest score ever,” Dowagiac coach Jamie Whitfield said. “I am very proud of all the hard work that the girls have put in to the season so far. This is not only our highest individual meet score, but the highest we have placed in the conference.”
Dowagiac will begin preparation for the postseason, which begins with the district tournament at Paw Paw High School Feb. 17.
“For districts, we are working on cleaning up all rounds to gain as many tenths as we can,” Whitfield said. “We are also working on putting in a harder tumbling skill in Round 2 to help raise our score.”
Dowagiac tuned up for the post season by competing in the Berrien Springs Rock The House Wednesday night.
