Police release names of suspect, victim involved in Howard Township shooting

The names of the suspect and victim involved in Tuesday night’s Howard Township shooting were released by the Michigan State Police Thursday morning.
James Robert Lampson, 56, of Niles, was arrested Tuesday at a Steak ‘n Shake on SR 933 in South Bend, after he was identified as a suspect in the alleged shooting of Jennifer Marleene Lampson, 45, of Ceresco, Michigan, according to the Michigan State Police.
The shooting occurred at Rivers Court in Howard Township at approximately 3:25 p.m. Tuesday. Police said that James, Jennifer’s estranged husband, had been attempting to drive her to the hospital in South Bend, when he called police to report the shooting and was told to pull over and wait for an ambulance.
He pulled into a Steak ‘N Shake parking and was arrested at the scene. He remains in the St. Joseph County Jail, pending extradition back to Michigan.
On Thursday, the Cass County Prosecutor’s office authorized a 10-count warrant against the suspect in this case, including one count of attempted murder, one count of unlawful imprisonment, one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder/strangulation, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, four counts of felony firearm, one count of domestic violence, and one count of obstruction of justice.
