JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — A man is in police custody on suspicions of making a fake 911 call which alleged that his wife had been attacked inside his house Tuesday afternoon, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence at the 65000 block of M-62 in Jefferson Township, between Edwardsburg and Cassopolis, around 5:05 p.m. Police were responding to a call to the 911 center, in which a man had reported that his wife had injured by a group of five individuals at his residence.
When officers arrived at the home, they found a woman inside, who was uninjured and was unaware that any 911 phone calls had been made. The man suspected of making the fake call was located in a nearby woods, where he had been attempting to hide from authorities, police said.
The suspect was arrested and lodged in Cass County Jail, on charges of filing a false police report and misusing 911. Authorities are withholding the man’s name until his arraignment in Cass County District Court, which is expected to take place Thursday afternoon.
