EDWARDSBURG — Every home houses items, which sole purpose has been to collect dust for years, be it a lamp that no longer matches the decor or clothing that the children have outgrown.
Next month, one Edwardsburg organization will be offering a space for local families to rid themselves of those items that they no longer need or want.
The Edwardsburg Lioness club will host its third annual mom to mom sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Edwardsburg Fire Department, 69910 M-62, Edwardsburg. The event will serve as a space where individuals and vendors can rent space to sell items to the public. The event is free to attend. Registration for a table for individuals will be $15, while tables for vendors will be $25. Concessions will be available at the event.
“This is kind of a community garage sale,” said Sue Smothermon, one of the organizers of the event. “We want to help moms sell all the stuff that they don’t want anymore, or help vendors like Pampered Chef or LulaRoe.”
All money raised from the event will go toward the Edwardsburg Lioness’ community fund, that the group uses to donate to community projects. In the past, the group has donated to the Edwardsburg Food Pantry, the Edwardsburg History Museum, Leader Dogs for the Blind and to adopt families in need during the holiday season.
“We don’t make a ton of money [from the mom to mom sale], but we do what we can to support local nonprofits in town,” Smothermon said. “We like to give back to
the community.”
Smothermon said that the event resonates with people because it is something fun to do during a winter weekend in Edwardsburg that also benefits the community.
“It’s kind of like an indoor, winter garage sale,” Smothermon said of the event. “People can come in and get good items for a low cost. Some of the things are even brand new.”
Though last year’s mom-to-mom sale was not as successful as organizers would have liked due to poor weather, Smothermon said she hopes this year’s event will be as busy and successful at the first year the Edwardsburg Lionesses hosted it.
“The first year, we were just packed. People were coming from all over to shop and stuff,” she said. “We really hope people will come out and really enjoy themselves. It is a fun time where people get to come together.”
