DOWAGIAC — In spite of the cold winds snapping through the city streets that afternoon, more than a dozen local men and women marched in solidarity to carry on the dream of American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Sunday.
The group of walkers, which included Mayor Don Lyons and Director of Public Safety Steven Grinnewald, traveled from Dowagiac City Hall on Front Street to Second Baptist Church on Paul Street nearly 1 mile away, passing through Farr Park outside Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital.
The annual celebration was once again organized by the Dowagiac church, which hosted a ceremony in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day following the walk.
