EDWARDSBURG — A way to support school athletics is coming to Edwardsburg in the form of a fundraising event.
The Edwardsburg Athletic Booster Club will be hosting its fourth annual Booster Bash from 7 to 11 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Our Lady of the Lake Social Hall, located at 24832 US-12, Edwardsburg. Food and alcoholic beverages will be served at the event, and a silent auction will take place. A DJ will also be playing music at the event.
Tickets to the event are $25 per person.
The athletic boosters is a long standing group in Edwardsburg that is dedicated to encouraging, supporting and enhancing sports within the Edwardsburg Public School system, according to the group’s Facebook page.
The event will serve as the athletic boosters’ biggest fundraiser of the year, according to group president Karen Meyers.
“It will be a lot of fun,” Meyers said of the Booster Bash. “People always enjoy themselves [at the annual Booster Bash]. We are hoping for a good turn out.”
The biggest draw to the event for many will likely be the silent auction, as the booster club is auctioning off a number of enviable items this year, Meyers said.
Some of the items available for auction will be custom made furniture, blankets and clothing.
Two of the items that Meyers anticipates being the most sought after are a student parking spot close to the high school building and seats to the 2018 varsity football season.
“People line up for hours outside our ticket stand for the games just to get the seats they want to be able to put down blankets for whatever, because our football team has done very well in the last few years,” Meyers said. “People always want to come [to football games], because it’s an affordable way for a family to spend time together. We are expecting a really good response to the seats this year.”
Meyers said that the booster club works closely with the coaching staff at Edwardsburg Public Schools so that the club can provide teams with what they need. She added that she hopes that this year’s fundraiser will enable the boosters to provide the teams with specialized equipment and
other necessities.
In previous years, the Booster Bash has raised money toward a new track and field scoreboard that is used for track and field meets and football games.
“The cost of providing athletic programs is increasing, so our goal is to offset those rising costs so that our athletic teams have the best equipment, the best locations, the best opportunities to succeed and the best athletes they can be,” Meyers said of why the booster club is dedicated to raising money for athletic programs. “We think that is important.”
