NILES — The Niles Police Department has released the names of the two individuals who were found dead at a Niles home last week.
Police discovered Albert Bivins, 81, and his daughter Patricia Bivins, 55, dead at 621 Woodruff St. at approximately 5:42 p.m. Jan. 3.
Authorities were alerted by a neighbor that the father and daughter had not been seen in a couple of days and that the snow had been piling up on the car and driveway. Upon arriving at the home, officers from the Niles Police Department peered through the window, where they saw an elderly man who appeared to be lying on the couch and he did not seem to be breathing. With the assistance of the Niles Fire Department, authorities gained access to the secure home by breaking a window to gain entry to the front door.
The temperature inside the home was well below 32 degrees, according to authorities. The initial investigation shows that there was gas and electric to the home at the time of the call.
Police said they do not suspect the father and daughter’s death to be suspicious, based on an initial investigation. Their deaths are believed to be accidental.
Both Albert and Patricia’s bodies were transported to Western Michigan University to undergo an autopsy on Jan. 5. Results are expected in two weeks.
The cause and time of death has yet to be determined. Police are continuing the investigation and more information will be released at a later date. Those with any information in regards to the case are advised to call the Niles Police Department Detective Bureau at (269) 683-0404.
