Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Jessie Hulett

Jessie Hulett is a freshman on the Dowagiac girls basketball team.

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

JH: Being on varsity for volleyball and basketball as a freshman.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

JH: Not being able to be as good as I want to be.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

JH: My sister, because she has always pushed to become a better athlete and has never given up on me.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

JH: When I first go in.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

JH: Tripping over my own feet and falling in my first varsity basketball game.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

JH: I work out with my sister. We work better together and push each other.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

JH: Soccer.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

JH: It teaches you important parts in life like teamwork, commitment, time management, self-motivation and respect.

How would you give away $50,000?

JH: Give it to kids who love to play sports that can’t afford to get the things they need to play.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

JH: University of Michigan softball team.

If I did not play sports, I would…

JH: Coach kids.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

JH: Not being the best on the team.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

JH: Not having to drag your foot when pitching.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

JH: I bring enthusiasm to the team and that my teammates look up to me.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

JH: Kill a spider. Yes, because it was no longer alive.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

JH: My pitching coach that is in his late 60s can still throw all his pitches like he was in younger years.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

JH: Sports, because it is what I love. I love pushing my teammates and myself to become better.
