NILES — Snowy weather was cited as a factor in an accident that occurred Wednesday afternoon, involving two vehicles on north M-51.
The accident occurred when the driver of a Ford Explorer was pulling out of a private drive at Arbor Trails. The driver of a Honda Accord who was traveling north on M-51 attempted to veer left to avoid the car and they collided, according to police.
“Neither one of them could stop,” said Niles police officer Angela Lick.
The impact of the crash pushed the Ford Explorer to spin 360 degrees and slide off the road.
The driver of the Ford was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Lick.
With more snow expected through Friday, Lick cautioned drivers to travel slowly and carefully on the roads.
“The roads are slippery, so everyone needs to be careful,” Lick said.
Authorities from the Niles Police Department, Niles Township Fire Department and Niles Fire Department responded to the scene to assist with the crash.
