Bad second-quarter leads to Dowagiac loss to Lancers

STEVENSVILLE — Host Lakeshore outscored Dowagiac 30-15 in the first half en route to a 56-47 non-conference boys basketball victory Tuesday night.
The two teams were deadlocked at 12-12 after one quarter, however the Lancers (3-1) outscored the Chieftains (2-2) 18-3 in the second period to break open the contest.
Dowagiac attempted to get back into the game in the third quarter as it held a three-point advantage in scoring.
The Chieftains trailed Lakeshore 42-30 heading into the final eight minutes of the contest.
The Lancers were 21-of-42 (50 percent) from the field, while Dowagiac connected on 19-of-42 attempts (45 percent).
The Chieftains were just 3-of-4 from the free throw line compared to 13-of-19 for the Lancers.
Lakeshore also outrebounded Dowagiac 21-17.
Caleb Murphy led Dowagiac with 11 points, while Shaquan Stanback added 10 points and D.J. Lanier nine.
Lakeshore’s Austin Kiser scored a game-high 14 points. Lakeshore also got 13 points from Dylan Sing and 10 points from Jon Bowman.
The Chieftains head to Edwardsburg for a Wolverine Conference South Division contest set to start at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
