NILES — Located on Dey Street in Niles, the Amtrak station was built in 1892.
There are 22 Michigan stations that are served by Amtrak. The Niles station was the 13th busiest in 2010, boarding around 50 passengers daily.
The Niles Depot has been in at least three movies, including “Continental Divide,” “Midnight Run” and “Only the Lonely.”
Now, it has been a tradition to add Christmas lights and decorations around the station every year.
The Four Flags Garden Club carries on the tradition of landscaping the depot grounds, and decorates the depot each year for the holidays. (Leader photos/EMILY SOBECKI)
