Smith nets 18 as Chieftains win second straight contest

BENTON HARBOR — Amiyah Smith scored a game-high 18 points as visiting Dowagiac won its second consecutive game of the season with a 40-32 non-league girls basketball victory over Benton Harbor Tuesday night.
The Chieftains trailed 10-7 after one quarter, but outscored the Tigers 14-5 in the second quarter to open up a 21-15 halftime advantage.
Dowagiac (2-1) held a 30-22 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play where both teams scored 10 points.
Besides Smith, the Chieftains also got seven points from Charity Aumaugher and five points from Tamia Wilson Parker.
Dowagiac returns to action Friday night as it hosts Otsego in a Wolverine Conference contest.
