Roundup: Niles, Edwardsburg third in conference tournaments

ST. JOSEPH — The Niles volleyball team had a great showing at the Class A Powerhouse SMAC Conference Tourney as it finished third out of 11 teams Saturday.
The Vikings were seeded third overall heading into the tourney based on their second-place finish in SMAC West Division Conference season play.
Niles took on Portage Northern in its opening-round match and defeated the Huskies 25-20, 21-25 and 15-11.
The Vikings then fell to ranked Mattawan 25-22 and 25-19 before rebounding to defeat Battle Creek Lakeview 21-25, 25-20 and 15-12.
The Vikings are 36-8-4 heading into Monday night’s Class B district opener against host South Haven.
Eddies third in Wolverine
THREE RIVERS — The Dowagiac volleyball team finished eighth at the Wolverine Conference tournament hosted by Three Rivers Saturday.
The Chieftains defeated Otsego 25-7 and 25-9 in its opening match before falling to the host Wildcats 25-16 and 28-26.
In the seventh-place match, the Chieftains were defeated by Paw Paw 25-17 and 25-16. Dowagiac and the Redskins will meet against Wednesday in the Class B district semifinals at Three Rivers.
Vicksburg defeated South Haven 19-25, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-16 to win the Wolverine Conference championship.
Edwardsburg finished third by defeating Plainwell 25-9 and 25-12.
The Eddies defeated Paw Paw 25-11 and 25-10 in the opening round before falling to Vicksburg in the semifinals 25-16 and 27-25.
