Niles sweeps rival Lakeshore

The Niles volleyball team swept host Lakeshore 3-0 to improve to 29-7-2 on the year and 3-1 in the SMAC West Division.

The Vikings defeated the Lancers 25-7, 27-25, 25-21 to remain in second place in the division.

Portage Central remained undefeated in the West Division at 4-0.

“We came out strong in the first set and dominated the runs resulting in the score,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “Lakeshore made some changes in their attacking during the second set, but we were able to adjust and maintain control defensively and offensively. It was a great night for all three of our teams.”

Bella Rasler led the Vikings with 22 kills, while she also had 14 digs and two blocks.

Abbie Harpenau and Nikki Nate each had four kills, while Harpenau also had two blocks and Nate had six points and two digs.

Carly Barton had 32 assists, seven digs, two kills, a block and five points.

Bre Love led Niles with 12 points.

The Vikings, ranked No. 4 in the latest Michigan High School Volleyball Coaches Association poll, will compete in the St. Joseph Invitational on Saturday.
