SOUTH HAVEN — The Dowagiac soccer team hosted Paw Paw in its final Wolverine Conference match Wednesday after playing to a 1-1 draw with South Haven on Saturday.
The Rams never actually scored a goal in the match as Dowagiac had an own-goal in the first half to give South Haven the 1-0 advantage.
Cristian Wilson scored in the second minute for the Chieftains, who were deadlocked with South Haven 1-1 at halftime.
Neither team found the back of the net in the final 40 minutes.
“It was an evenly-matched game,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. “It should make for a great game in the district if both of us make it to the finals.”
Dowagiac outshot South Haven 15-9 in the match.
Dowagiac will travel to Brandywine for its Division 3 district opener Monday.
The Chieftains, who defeated the Bobcats 8-0 earlier this year, will square off at 5 p.m.
The winner advances to the semifinals Wednesday to face Coloma, which received a first-round bye.
In the other half of the bracket, Buchanan will host Berrien Springs at 5 p.m. Monday, while South Haven will host Benton Harbor Countryside.
The Buchanan-Berrien Springs winner will face the South Haven-Countryside winner in the other semifinal Wednesday.
The time and dates for the semifinals have yet to be determined.
The championship match will be held at Buchanan Middle School at 11 a.m. Oct. 21.
