Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Kelsey Crocker

Kelsey Crocker is a junior on the Dowagiac volleyball team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
KC: One of my greatest accomplishments as an athlete is making varsity volleyball as a freshman.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
KC: One of my biggest disappointments as an athlete is losing a game you know you could have won.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
KC: A hero in my life is my dad. He always pushes me to be better and gives me things to focus on in games.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
KC: I am not really nervous competing. I always just try to put my body before the ball and better myself so I can better my team.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
KC: An embarrassing athletic moment is nearly every day tripping over my shoes in practice and games.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
KC: I train, work out at Performance One in Niles.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
KC: If I didn’t play volleyball I would play soccer.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
KC: Sports are an important part of high school because they keep you focused and help you manage your time.
How would you give away $50,000?
KC: If I had $50,000, I would donate it to Dowagiac volleyball for new apparel and equipment.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
KC: If I could be the head coach for one year, I would coach at Hope College.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
KC: If I did not play volleyball I would spend more time with my friends and family.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
KC: The most challenging thing to do in volleyball for me is serving the ball hard while getting it to the spot I want to put it.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
KC: If I could change one rule about volleyball it would be not to get yellow carded for not being on the court before the buzzer goes off after a time out.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
KC: The best compliment I have ever received is that every time people think the ball is going to hit the ground I come out of nowhere and get it up.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
KC: The scariest thing I have had to do is go to a three-day volleyball camp when I didn’t know a single person there. I’m glad I did it.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
KC: The last thing someone did that really impressed me is multiple times Natalie (Davis) dove for a ball when she was all the way across the court and got it up.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
KC: My favorite hobby is volleyball. It is what I love to do and it has been since fifth grade.
