PLAINWELL — Another top Wolverine Conference team handed Dowagiac a loss Wednesday night.

The visiting Chieftains trailed 3-0 at halftime and wound up on the wrong end of a 4-1 loss to Plainwell.

“We played a tough game against a very talented and experience Plainwell team,” said Dowagiac coach Mike Williams. “Other than a 10-minute period, we stuck with them and had several counter attacks.”

Soe Hung, Zach Tenener and Luke Morrell scored first half goals for the Trojans, while Morrell added a goal in the second half.

Dowagiac’s lone score came from Alec Saylor to open the second half, off an assist from Gage Williams.

Plainwell outshot Dowagiac 23-6.

The Chieftains are now 7-4 overall and 1-4 in the Wolverine Conference.

Dowagiac will host Sturgis at 4 p.m. Monday.

HARTFORD — In a battle for first place in the Southwest 10 Conference, host Hartford avenged an earlier loss to Cassopolis with a 3-0 victory Wednesday.

The Rangers and Indians will share the league championship, as both teams are 9-1.

Cassopolis blanked Hartford 2-0 in their first meeting earlier this month.

Hartford led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Brandon Galvan in the opening minute of the match.

Danny Resendez and Fernando Alvarez scored the two second-half goals for the Indians.

Cassopolis was outshot by Hartford 16-3.

Zachary Friske had 13 saves for the Rangers.

“Hartford played really well and we didn’t move the ball very well once we got into the attacking third of the field,” said Cassopolis coach Austin Francis. “They were quick to mark up and take away options.  Give a lot of credit to the strong program that Coach Blackmer has going at Hartford.  We had a mental lapse in the first minute of the game that put us in a hole early.  I am still proud of our guys though for continuing to play tough throughout the game.

“It was a good learning experience as we get closer to districts that we are not invincible and still have a lot of work to do before tournament time. ”
