Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Cristian Wilson

Cristian Wilson is a sophomore on the Dowagiac soccer team.

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

CW: Making varsity as a freshman.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

CW: Travel soccer season last year.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

CW: My dad, because he pushes me to be the best I can be.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

CW: Before the game in warm ups.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

CW: Getting nutmegged (the ball passed between your legs) by a Paw Paw defender in districts.

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

CW: I run, lift weights and get touches on the ball.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

CW: Football.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

CW: They teach you how to work together as a team.

How would you give away $50,000?

CW: I would give it to a charity that helps kids that have had a hard life.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

CW: Real Madrid.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

CW: Work.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

CW: Maintaining stamina.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

CW: Offsides.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

CW: I am quick, powerful and smart.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

CW: Rollercoaster rides.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

CW: Alec (Saylor) score four goals against Vicksburg.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

CW: Video games. It takes my mind off life.
