DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac cross country teams were swept by visiting South Haven during a Wolverine Conference dual meet at the Dowagiac Middle School Tuesday.
The boys team lost to the Rams 20-43, while the girls team was swept 15-46.
The Chieftains’ Shawn Little, a sophomore, posted another sub-17 minute time as he took first place with a clocking of 16:51.
Dowagiac coach Dan VandenHeede was pleased that he had enough to post a team score.
“We were happy to have a full team for both men and women today,” he said. “Qwintrayl (Scott), Ben (Owen) and Chris (Schultz) had their first race today, so to have everyone under 25 minutes is great. We have had a hard time keeping runners, so we appreciate the new ones coming out so we can field a team.
“For the women, Roma had a breakout race and Sofia had a PR also.”
Ruka Ushio led the girls team with a ninth-place finish.
