County authorities are currently searching for a man suspected of breaking into a home in LaGrange Township this morning, according to officials with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies with the department, along with officers with the Michigan State Police, Pokagon Tribal Police and Cass County Drug Enforcement team, were dispatched to a reported home invasion at a residence on Dailey Road near Pokagon Highway outside Cassopolis around 8:30 a.m.
The suspects fled from the scene in a white Ford Taurus, which a sheriff’s squad car later intercepted. The suspects were able to elude capture and drove the vehicle into a corn field off of White Street, between Anderson and Dodd Roads, in Howard Township, outside Niles.
Police set up a perimeter around the area to search for the suspects, and called in the Cass County Sheriff’s Office K-9, Faust, to track the suspect. The police dog managed to located one of the suspects, the car’s passenger, near Hoyt Street and Dodd Road, who was arrested and lodged at Cass County Jail.
Faust was joined by a K-9 from the Michigan State Police Department, and later by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office’s other K-9 tracker, Nellie. All three unites were able to track the other suspect’s scent to a nearby drainage creek, but were unable to find the man himself.
The suspected driver of the vehicle is described by police as a white man, who is around 6 feet tall and weighs around 200 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Any residents in the White Street, Barron Lake Road, M-60 and Anderson Road areas who encounter someone resembling the subject are asked to call the sheriff’s office immediately.
This matter remains under investigation at this time.
