CASSOPOLIS — Senior Amy Adams recently got to cross an item off her bucket list.
Run, and win, on her own home course as the Rangers hosted Decatur and Centreville in its first cross country match Sept. 13.
Adams ran a 21:06 to easily outdistance runner-up Gabriella Schlabach of Centreville.
“Wednesday was our first opportunity to host a race because Centreville and Decatur were willing to try it out and had an opening in their schedules,” Cassopolis coach Martin McGinn said. “It was great for our student body and members of our community to see a cross country meet because some never have. Some of our runners were nervous because they were not used to their peers watching them compete. A few other students came up to me after the race interested in running cross country.
“It is only fitting that John’s daughter, Amy, a senior who has been all-conference, all-region, and a state qualifier, won her first cross country race here and set the first course record (boys and girls) with a 21:08.”
Centreville defeated Cassopolis 23-50, while Decatur was third with 63 points.
Amelia Ayers finished eighth overall with a time of 26:08, while Ida Tangkjaer was 11th with a time of 27:05.
Centreville also won the boys race with 15 points. Neither Cassopolis or Decatur fielded enough runners for a team score.
The Rangers’ top runner was Andrew Rininger, who was 10th overall with a time of 24:11.
