PLAINWELL — It was doubleheader day for the Wolverine Conference as the league schools headed to Lake Doster for 18 holes of golf.
While Sturgis continues to pull away from the rest of the league after winning both end of the doubleheader, there was plenty of shake up in the standings from spots two through eight.
The Trojans shot 195 and 191 to easily win both jamborees, one hosted by Plainwell and the other by Otsego.
The Bulldogs were second in the first jamboree, while Allegan finished third as they shot 225 and 226 respectively.
Dowagiac was fifth overall after shooting 240 as a team.
Erin Taylor of Three Rivers earned medalist honors as she shot a 43.
The Chieftains’ Rebecca Franklin was third with a 46 and Greta Whitaker ninth with a 52.
In the second jamboree, Otsego again finished second with a 224, while Dowagiac was third with a 228.
“Yesterday was a long day for all of the girls,” Dowagiac coach Bob Turner said. “We do not play many 18 hole matches and it is a grind that takes some getting used to and we need to be by the end of the year because our conference tournament and regionals are 18 hole events.”
Katie Horn of Sturgis picked up medalist honors with a 43.
The Chieftains’ Franklin finished second, just one stroke back with a 44.
“Rebecca struggled a little bit on Monday and spent extra time on the range on Tuesday and figured some things,” Turner said. “She is just very consistent with what she does on the golf course.”
