Sister Lakes Lions hosting Fourth of July Fireworks July 1
SISTER LAKES — The Sister Lakes Lions Club will host its annual Independence Day fireworks show on Saturday, July 1, at Lions Park, 66991 95th Ave., Dowagiac.
Fireworks will begin immediately after the celebration raffle drawing at 10 p.m.
People are invited to bring a blanket or a folding chair, and enjoy the show. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Refreshments will be available.
In case of rain, the fireworks show will be on Sunday, July 2, at the same time and location.
Conservation club hosting hunter safety course July 6-8
DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac Conservation Club will be offering a free hunter safety classes next month.
Registration for the three-day course will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, inside the club, which is located 2 miles north of Dowagiac on M-51 N. A birth certificate is required for all registrants.
The three courses wil take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, and Friday, July 7, and from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 8. Attendance at all three meetings is required in order to receive a hunter safety card.
Two charged in Cassopolis dog biting incident
CASSOPOLIS — Two Cassopolis residents were arraigned Wednesday, June 14 in relation to a dog-biting incident.
Vashaun James Morgan and Justin Darvell Smith have been charged on several counts in relation to an April 8 incident when their pit bull allegedly attacked neighboring children.
Police say 7-year-old Anthony and 2-year-old Arial Harrison were playing in their grandmother’s yard when they were attacked by the pit bull. Both Anthony and Arial were bitten, and Arial sustained extensive damage to the face and neck.
The children’s grandmother Jennifer Hansford also sustained minor injuries.
Morgan, 22, faces three charges of dog biting, five counts of dog running at large, four counts of failure to vaccinate, four counts of failure to license and one count of interfering with law enforcement.
