Wolverine Conference champion Vicksburg and runner-up Edwardsburg each had three players named to the first team of the all-conference softball team, which was released Tuesday.

Edwardsburg’s Savannah Dixon, Allie Stycker and Layne Stinnett were all first-team picks.

Dowagiac had a pair of first-team selections, as Amiyah Smith and Megan Soderbloom were named to the squad.

The Chieftains’ Taylor Hulett was a second-team pick.

Smith hit .419 with seven doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs and 15 runs in 16 games. She also stole seven bases..

“Amiyah is the kind of player every coach wants to have more of,” said Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke. “She can play any position on the field and played shortstop, third base and catcher for us this year and played all of them well. She will be looked upon to do more of the same next year for us.”

Soderbloom hit .439 with six doubles, a triple and 16 RBIs.

“Megan was a leader for us behind the plate and made us a better team when she was there,” Behnke said. “She got big hit after big hit for us the last years and will be hard to replace.”

Hulett hit ..352 with five doubles, a triple, a home run and 12 RBIs. She scored 16 runs in 16 games. On the mound she was 5-7 with a 2.80 ERA. She struck out 75 hitters in 72 innings pitched.

“Taylor has been a steady force for us the last four years in the circle,” Behnke said. “As a freshman, in the second game of the year we were behind to Decatur and she came in and shut them down and we came back to win and she never looked back. Her bat was just as good as her pitching and it will be hard to fill those gaps in our team next year.”
