Buchanan freshman Austin Lloyd earned individual medalist honors and a trip to the state golf finals Wednesday.
Lloyd shot 80 at the Division 3 regional hosted by Comstock at Stonehedge North Golf Club.
“Austin Lloyd played really well today,” said Buchanan coach Amelio Rodriguez. “He was striking the ball good all day and kept it in play despite the strong winds, with the exception of one hole.
“He has been working for this moment, not just this season, but ever since he started playing golf. He not only strikes the ball well, but he is a smart player as well. He doesn’t just try to hit it as far as he can. He knows his strengths and he plays to them. I am super excited for him to be getting a chance to play in the state tournament at Ferris State.”
Schoolcraft captured the team championship with a score of 313, while Olivet and Delton-Kellogg also advanced to the state finals with scores of 342 and 359 respectively.
Buchanan, despite Lloyd’s effort, finished ninth with a 397.
Brandywine was eighth with a 392 and Dowagiac nine with a 393.
The top three teams, plus the three individuals with the lowest score not on a qualifying team, advance to the finals, which will be held June 9 and 10 at Katke on the campus of Ferris State University.
Brandywine was led by Jordan Mickiewicz, who shot 93, while Nick Saltzman and Drew Davis, both of whom show 95, led Dowagiac.
