White Pigeon captured the BCS Athletic Conference Central Division championship, which was decided following the league tournament at Hampshire Country Club May 15.
The Chiefs won all five Central Division jamborees to finish with 20 points. White Pigeon finished third at the conference tournament to score four points, which was doubled, giving the Chieftains a total of 28 points.
Buchanan, which was second at all five jamborees and finished fourth at the league tournament, was second overall with 28 points.
Cassopolis finished third with eight points, while Brandywine was fourth with seven and Howardsville Christian fifth with six.
“We’ve had a good year so far, finishing second in the division to White Pigeon, who has a solid team all around,” said Buchanan coach Amelio Rodriguez. “The team has improved every year I’ve been here, and second place was the goal this year since we knew White Pigeon would be tough to beat.”
White Pigeon’s Jordan Olsen earned medalist honors for the Central Division as well as the league tournament.
Buchanan’s Austin Lloyd joined Olsen on the All-West Division squad, along with Cassopolis’ Hunter Tietsort, White Pigeon’s Cole Shafer and Donovan Snook.
“Austin Lloyd has been a big reason for us finishing second in the division, and he earned his first team all-conference award,” Rodriguez said. “He had a slow start to conference play, but once he settled in, he was finishing in the top two or three every match.”
