Chieftains host Wolverine Conference today

A busy week for the Wolverine Conferences wraps up at Hampshire Country Club with the final jamboree of the regular season.
Dowagiac will play host to the conference, which played a pair of matches at Sauganash in Three Rivers and Island Hills in Centreville Thursday.
Heading into Thursday’s competition, defending Wolverine Conference champion Otsego held a seven-point lead over second place Plainwell.
The Bulldogs have 67 points so far this season, while the Trojans have 60. Edwardsburg is one point back at 59, while Dowagiac is currently ninth in the overall standings with 17 points.
Dowagiac coach Bob Turner is hoping the Chieftains can take advantage of hosting the jamboree today.
“I would like to shoot our best round of the year and beat three or four teams,” said Turner about today’s goal. “We have been getting better, as have the other teams. We just need to take advantage of the home course advantage.”
Unlike the battle for the team championship, the battle for league medalist is much closer.
Edwardsburg’s Carter Goodson, who has been on fire the past three jamborees, leads the standing with a stroke average of 36.286.
Otsego’s Tyler Rayman is second with an average of 36.429, while Allegan freshman Remi Franklin is third with an average of 37.857.
