Mack Charles laid down the suicide squeeze to drive in the go-ahead run as Dowagiac earned a split with host Three Rivers in Wolverine Conference baseball Tuesday.
The Chieftains and Wildcats were deadlocked at 2-2 heading into the seventh inning when Charles got the bunt down to give the Chieftains a 3-2 win in the opening game.
Three Rivers rebounded to defeat Dowagiac 8-0 in the nightcap.
“Great game from the boys,” said Dowagiac coach Dan Schuchardt. “Excellent pitching from Brenden Dudley and Ellijah Williams.”
Williams picked up the victory in relief of Dudley. The two combined on a three-hitter with six strikeouts.
Dudley had two hits, including a double, while Duan Simpson was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.
In the second game, the Chieftains were held to one hit.
Mack Charles started and took the loss.
