Dowagiac 1-2 at Lakeshore Invitational

STEVENSVILLE — The Dowagiac softball team went 1-2 at the Lakeshore Invitational Saturday.
The Chieftains lost 5-2 to Coloma in the opening game before rebounding to defeat Lake Orion 19-5.
In the consolation round, host Lakeshore defeated Dowagiac 9-0.
Taylor Hulett gave up three earned runs and struck out six in taking the loss against Coloma.
The Chieftains had just five hits in the contest, including a pair by Amiyah Smith, which included a double.
Kailey Fear scattered five hits, allowed one earned run, struck out nine and did not walk a batter in beating Lake Orion.
Dowagiac had 12 hits in the contest.
Smith was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Hannah Whitaker, Hulett, Fear and Mekenna Gaideski all had two hits.
Gaideski drove in three runs, while Whitaker, Fear and Taylore Froehlich all had two RBIs.
Hulett suffered the loss against the Lancers as she gave up two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Fear pitched the final two innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits.
Dowagiac (13-7) had two hits in the contest, both singles.
