Defending league champion Edwardsburg improved to 6-0 with a sweep of host Dowagiac in Wolverine Conference baseball Tuesday at Rotary Park.

The Eddies (12-2) defeated the Chieftains 6-4 in the opening game despite letting a 5-0 lead slip away.

Edwardsburg completed the sweep with a 20-1 win in the five-inning nightcap.

Jake Robinson scattered six hits and struck out five in earning the victory.

Caden Goggins was 2-for-4, while Chase Tarwacki, Joe Hess and Matt Hepler all doubled. Hepler also drove in three runs.

Duan Simpson was 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Brenden Dudley was 2-for-4 with a double and Mack Charles 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Dudley worked the first five innings and suffered the loss. He allowed four earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Ellijah Williams pitched the sixth and seventh, giving up a run on one hit with two strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Edwardsburg scored six runs in the second, four runs in the third and fourth and five runs in the fifth.

The Eddies banged out 16 hits, led by Chris Griffen, who was 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Dylan Layher was 2-for-3 with a double, while Tarwacki was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

Devin Pulling, Matt Hepler and Ryan Pabreza all drove in a pair of runs.

Winning pitcher Joe Raab had a triple and three RBIs.

Raab was one of three pitchers who combined on a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks.
