After struggling in all phases of the game in its season opener, the Brandywine Bobcats showed improvement in both areas as they swept visiting Cassopolis 4-1 and 7-4.

In the first game, the Bobcats (2-2) had Kennedy Bryd toss a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

Both of the Rangers hits were doubles — by Kaitlyn Hartsell and Maile Barber.

Brandywine finished with 10 hits, including doubles Grace Polomcak and Nicole Sachman. Zakiyyah Abdulla and Delani Nelson each had two hits.

In the nightcap, Nelson scattered four hits and struck out nine to earn the win.

Brandywine finished with another 12 hits, led by Bryd’s pair of singles and a double. Sachman added three hits and Abdullah doubled.

Keefe had a pair of doubles for the Rangers.

Brandywine (5-2) had just five hits in the opening game, including a 3-for-3 performance from Toby Fox, who drove in a pair of runs.

Ty Mickiewicz also drove in two runs for the Bobcats, who scored four in the opening inning and never looked back.

Mickiewicz worked the first four innings and earned the victory as he allowed one hit with four strikeouts. Brady Duval pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit with three strikeouts.

Dylan Green doubled for the Rangers, who had just two hits.

In the nightcap, which lasted just five innings before being called due to darkness, Brandywine scored four runs on just two hits. Cassopolis committed two more errors.

Brock Prenkert went the distance for the Bobcats, allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Duval had a double for Brandywine.
