Feb. 8, 1929 — April 2, 2017
Marjorie Jean Myers, 88, of Niles, died at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Lakeland Hospital in Niles, following a brief illness.
She was born on Feb. 8, 1929, in Berrien Springs, to David Lyle and Opal (Fox) Billett.
She graduated from Berrien Springs High School, and has lived in Niles most of her life. As a young lady, she was employed at AT&T in Chicago, and then was employed in the offices of Tyler Refrigeration for many years.
Jean was a member of Coulter’s Chapel Church of God. She enjoyed watching a wide variety of sports on television, and was especially fond of the University of Notre Dame athletics. When she was younger, she bowled on area leagues. She has always been known for her great homemaking skills, and being very neat, clean and orderly around the house, as well as her yard and garden. Her greatest joy was caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their athletic events.
On June 24, 1950, in Niles, she married Robert L. “Poppy” Myers, with whom she celebrated the remarkable 62nd anniversary of their wedding prior to his death four years ago — nearly to the day — on April 5, 2013.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra K. Taylor, on June 2, 2014, and by her brother, Al Joachin.
Surviving family includes her daughter, Vicki (Mark) Shields of Niles; son-in-law Todd Taylor of Berrien Springs; grandchildren Brooke (Tom) Garcia, Autumn (Kent) Mikel, Blake (MaryCille) Taylor and Joshua Taylor; great-grandchildren Paige, Landon, Ava, Zoey, Sophia, Cannon and Braxton; Jean’s sister, Shirley (Ken) Bowker of Newaygo, Michigan; a family friend, Jean (Bob) Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Jean Myers will honor her wish for no public event following her death.
