With the goal to help those battling cancer, Buchanan National Honor Society students will be raising money for the Relay for Life during a basketball game at the high school Friday.
The Bucks will face off against Parchment at 7:30 p.m. in their second-to-last home game of the season.
Buchanan National Honor Society president Alex Tobler said the honor society thought the game would be a great time to spread awareness about cancer and have people contribute to a worthy cause.
Buchanan students have partnered with an organizer from the Niles-Buchanan Relay for Life. Those who attend the game will have the chance to donate to Relay for Life, sign up to be on a team or to be a sponsor.
Serving the community is a core part of the National Honor Society, Tobler said. Throughout the year students tackle several projects to help their local community.
This year, they decided to aid the Relay for Life, which raises money for the American Cancer Society.
“We thought this was important because we wanted to do something that we know would help people locally,” Tobler said.
Those who participate will have the chance to show Buck spirit while also helping to fight for a worthy cause, Tobler said.
The Niles-Buchanan Relay for Life will be from 10 a.m. to midnight July 15 at Niles High School, 1441 Eagle St.
Tobler said she is glad that her school seeks to support many charitable causes within the community, while encouraging students to help out.
“Our school does a lot with giving,” Tobler said. “Everybody is willing to help and give back.”
