Boys roundup: Local teams have tough night

Edwardsburg, Cassopolis, Dowagiac and Niles all came up on the wrong end of division games Friday night.
The Eddies were defeated by Three Rivers 46-33 in a Wolverine Conference South Division boys basketball game, while Dowagiac dropped a 49-39 division to visiting Sturgis.
In BCS Blue Division action, New Buffalo defeated Cassopolis 68-57.
Three Rivers at Edwardsburg
The Wildcats (8-3, 4-0 South) outscored the Eddies (3-8, 1-3 South) 29-9 in the first half en route to victory.
Edwardsburg scored 22 second half points, but could not overcome the early deficit.
Adam Kozinski had 12 points to lead the Eddies, who also got seven points from Ke’von Taylor.
Jalie Heivilin and Carson Charvat both had 10 points for Three Rivers.

Sturgis at Dowagiac
The Trojans (10-2, 4-1 South) turned a 20-17 halftime advantage into a 38-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter and never looked back against the Chieftains.
Dowagiac (2-9, 0-5 South) kept it close in the final eight minutes, but was unable to mount any serious threat.
Caleb Murphy had 14 points to lead the Chieftains, while Adrien Bucha-Moore added nine.
Matthew Polzin led all scorers with 24 points for Sturgis, which also got 11 points from Brecken Stewart.

Cassopolis at New Buffalo
The Rangers tasted defeat in division play for the first time Friday night as the Bison stretched a one-point halftime lead into an 11-point victory.
Cassopolis (8-2, 4-1 Blue) trailed 20-6 after one quarter, but rallied to cut New Buffalo’s lead to 29-28 at the intermission.
The Bison (8-3, 4-1 Blue) opened up a 46-42 advantage heading to the fourth quarter before exploding for 22 points while holding the Rangers to 15.
Shane Los scored a game-high 23 points to lead Cassopolis, while Tyrese Hunt-Thompson added 12 and Kiambu Gary 11.
Seth Margaritis shared game-high honors as he scored 23 points for the Bison.
Julian Hymes finished with 17 and Gaige Rice 11.

Benton Harbor at Niles
Tiger freshman Carlos Johnson scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Benton Harbor rolled to its 13th victory of the season over host Niles Friday night.
The Tigers (13-0) pulsed away from the Vikings (3-8) by outscoring Niles 23-10 in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings had cut the lead to 44-37 heading into the final quarter after trailing 33-22 at halftime.
Besides Johnson, Benton Harbor got 12 points from Elijah Baxter and 10 points from Shawn Hopkins.
Niles did not have a player in double figures.
Bryce Lake and Chris Brown both scored eight points for the Vikings, who also got seven points from Robert Brown.
