John and Joyce Scherer, of Dowagiac, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 4. The couple was joined in marriage on Feb. 4, 1967.
The couple’s original wedding date was Jan. 28, but the ceremony was postponed until Feb. 4 due to massive snowstorm, which prevented the bridesmaids from getting to Dowagiac from college, the baker from arriving in town to bake the cake and the flowers from arriving on the train.
John and Joyce were married at the Federated Church, with a reception at Rendezvous in Sister Lakes.
John and Joyce continue to reside on their family farm on Middle Crossing Road with their children and grandchildren all living close to them.
John is a broker with Farm Land Realty and a fruit farmer, while Joyce is a retired internship coordinator with Southwestern Michigan College.
Their children are John (Laura) and Scott (Karmen Grady) Scherer and Kelli (Jerry) Casey. Their grandchildren are John IV, Olivia, Nathan, Karlee, Landon, Alavaro and Morgan Scherer; Allan, Harvey, Alexa, Ashton and Alexis Grady; and Alyssa and Maddy Casey. They also have a great-grandson, Alec Scherer.
They plan to celebrate their anniversary this summer at their home with friends and family.
