The unseasonably warm January weather has caused Buchanan city officials to cancel this year’s Winter Thrill on the Hill.
The lack of snow could be overcome in most years by making snow, but the warm ground means that it would not last the weekend.
“We are all sorely disappointed,” Mayor Brenda Hess said. “There is just no way [to have the event] with this weather.”
The event was scheduled for Jan. 27 to 28, so the city wanted to give businesses and restaurants enough time to adjust plans for the cancellation of the event.
Hess said that there is no plan to reschedule the winter event, instead the city is looking to the expand the Summer Thrill.
“We are looking to add maybe an extra day to the Summer Thrill,” Hess said.
