Athlete Showcase: Cassopolis’ Kyana Buck

Kyana Buck is a senior on the Cassopolis girls basketball team.

 

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

KB: Being a four-year varsity letterman.

 

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

KB: Not being a leader.

 

What has been a hardship in your life?

KB: Losing my uncle.

 

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

KB: My mom. She has thought me everything I know and need to know as a young adult.

 

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

KB: When it comes very close to losing or winning.

 

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

KB: Missing a wide-open lay-up three times in a row.

 

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

KB: Just put up as many shots as I can and work on dribbling. I like to work on my weaknesses.

 

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

KB: Volleyball.

 

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

KB: Because it allows you to meet new people and interact with others.

 

How would you give away $50,000?

KB: I would give it to charity or back to my high school athletic programs.

 

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

KB: The Chicago Sky.

 

If I did not play sports, I would…?

KB: Focus more on school and work more.

 

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

KB: Keep pushing myself when I am tired or sore.

 

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

KB: No fouls.

 

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

KB: “You’re going to go far. Keep it up.”

 

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

KB: Sitting out a few games from an injury. Yes I am glad I did because now I am healthy for more years of basketball.

 

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

KB: Watched someone get up from an injury and try to continue playing because the team needed him or her.

 

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

KB: Cooking. I like food and enjoy making it.
