Rangers split with Centreville

Host Cassopolis took an early lead and made it stand up against Centreville in BCS Athletic Conference boys basketball action Friday night.

The Rangers (2-0) led 13-7 after one quarter and went on to win 50-43 over the Bulldogs.

In the first game of the conference doubleheader, Centreville defeated Cassopolis 59-45.

The loss snapped the Rangers’ two-game winning streak.

The Rangers led at every quarter break, but were never able to pull away from the Bulldogs, who trailed 25-21 at halftime and 36-32 heading into the final quarter.

Tyrese Hunt-Thompson led Cassopolis with a game-high 15 points, while Xander Smith and Kiambu Gary both added nine points.

Hayden Stauffer led Centreville with 14 points.

In the girls game, the Rangers were outscored 33-22 in the second half.

Cassopolis railed just 26-23 at the break, but entered the fourth quarter facing a 43-32 deficit.

Santaja Gibson had a game-high 19 points to lead the Rangers, who also got 10 points from Ky’ana Buck.

Carly Todd had 12 points to pace the Bulldogs.
