People living in or just stopping by the Sister Lakes community will soon have another place to purchase groceries and other goods.

Construction work on a new Dollar General store in the lakefront resort area is nearing completion, with a grand opening date expected to be announced in the coming weeks, according to a spokesman with the national chain of convenience stores. The store, located at 67633 M-152, is currently hiring employees as it nears its official
opening date.

“We look forward to offering Van Buren County residents a convenient location to purchase products that are frequently used and replenished, such as food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares and seasonal items at low everyday prices,” said Nolan Miles, a Dollar General communications coordinator in comments emailed to the Dowagiac Daily News.

Construction on the store has been ongoing since April, Miles said.

The store will be the second Dollar General located in the Dowagiac area, joining the store located within the city at 104 Park Place. According to Miles, Sister Lakes is a great new location for the chain, and will meet customers’ needs for the region.

“We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three to five mile radius, or 10 minute drive,” he said. “We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”

Dollar General, which is headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, has been in business since 1955, opening its first store in Springfield, Kentucky. The chain currently operates more than 12,400 stores across 43 states.
