Riveridge to host youth fishing tournament

NILES — Riveridge Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center will host the inaugural Youth Bass Fishing Tournament on Aug. 27 on Barron Lake in Niles.

The event is for youth ages 6 to 17. Weigh-ins will take place at Riveridge Rehab, which is located at 1333 Wells St., in Niles.

A craft/vendor fair will take place at Riveridge the same day of the tournament.

Blood bank seeking donations, giving ice cream

NILES — Michigan Blood will host a blood drive in the rotunda of the Niles District Library from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4.

Those who attempt to donate will win a $100 Meijer gift card. Those who successfully donate a pint of blood will receive a coupon to Martin’s for a free pint of ice cream.

Michigan Blood will host another blood drive rom 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29 at the library.

 

Vietnam veterans invited to luncheon

MARCELLUS, Mich. — Vietnam veterans who served in any branch of the military between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, will be honored at a service at the Marcellus VFW, located at 53550 M-40, Marcellus, at noon, Monday, Aug. 8.

The event is hosted by the Captain Samuel Felt Chapter DAR, who will serve lunch.

Dennis Slattery, a Vietnam veteran, will be the guest speaker.

Each veteran in attendance will be honored with a lapel pen provided by the Department of Defense.

Registration still open for expo

NILES — The Community Development Department is partnering with the Niles History Center to host a Business and Consumer Expo. There is still time to sign up.

The expo will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. All businesses are invited to attend.
