Niles Township firefighters were dispatched to the Speedway gas station at the corner of Fort and South 11th Streets Monday afternoon on a report of a car on fire in the parking lot. Chief Gary Brovold, of Niles Township Fire Department, said the fire was out before they arrived thanks to the use of a fire extinguisher at Speedway.

Brovold said the incident occurred when a gas can fell off a pontoon trailer that was being towed south on South 11th Street. A car hit the gas can and caught fire. The driver of the car then pulled into the gas station. No one was injured.
