In an effort to celebrate local father figures, the Niles District Library is hosting a Father’s Day dance.
Children 12 years of age or younger are invited to bring their father figures to the library for the dance, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, June 17. The event is free to attend.
The library is hosting the dance for the third straight year as a way to help children spend time with the men in their lives.
“This event is important to have something special to do with their kids,” said Tara Hunsberger, who is in charge of the dance. “This is interacting with each other as a family.”
Last year there were around 90 attendees to the dance.
Because this is an after-hours event, the library doors will be locked at 6:15 p.m., so attendees are encouraged to arrive promptly at 6 p.m.
There will be a DJ at the dance playing songs like the “hokey pokey,” “The Hot Dog Dance” and Disney songs.
Coloring pages and a craft are also included. Children will be able to create and color a refrigerator magnet to take home.
In addition to the dancing, popcorn and lemonade will be provided as a snack.
“It’s good exercise, too,” Hunsberger said. “Dancing burns off calories in a fun way. It’s just a fun, free family event.”
