Six South Bend Cubs to play in Midwest League All-Star Game

SOUTH BEND — Six members of the South Bend Cubs have been rewarded for their first half success by being named to the Midwest League All-Star Game.

Getting the start for the Eastern Division in Cedar Rapids on June 21 are second baseman Andrew Ely, third baseman Jesse Hodges plus outfielders Eloy Jimenez and Donnie Dewees.

Carson Sands and Adbert Alozlay have been named to the Eastern Division’s pitching staff.

Ely will be the Eastern Division’s starting second baseman.

Hodges will take the field for the East as the team’s starting third baseman.

Jimenez will get the start in the outfield for the Eastern Division.

Dewees, the Chicago Cubs second round pick last summer out of the North Florida, will start along side Jimenez in the outfield.

Sands leads South Bend’s pitching staff with five wins in nine starts this season.

Alzolay through nine starts is 4-2 with a 3.72 earned run average.
