Pioneer Days shaping up

Plans are being finalized for the June 25 Pioneer Days.
The Main Street Committee has replaced Sidewalk Days from 2015 with Pioneer Days, which is also being tied to Log Cabin Day, set for June 26.
The day will begin with the Ranger Run 5K, which begins and ends at Sam Adams Elementary.
The Ranger Run is a 5K run and walk to raise money for the Cassopolis cross country and track teams. There will be awards for the top three runners in each age category, as well as the top male and female finishers.
To register for the run, go to wwww.imathlete.com/events/EventOverview.aspx.
The Thursday night before Pioneer Days, June 23, a semiprofessional wrestling show will be put on behind the village hall with proceeds going to the Parks and Recreation Department.
Other events for Pioneer Days are:
• A beer garden being hosted by William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704
• Live music, including Rick Drews and DJ Mark Jones
• Vendors, selling both food and wares
• Kettle corn demonstration at the Pioneer Log Cabin
• Pioneer Log Cabin Museum tours
• A children’s play area, which will be located behind village hall
The Main Street committee will also be selling T-shirts at the festival and memorial bricks for a project at the pavilion next to the Log Cabin.
Main Street Committee President Ben Anderson said he is pleased with the way things are coming together.
“I have a good list of volunteers this year,” Anderson said. “We got the T-shirts designed and they will be here. The cost will be $15 per shirt.
“Another thing we are trying to do is build that seating area down by the Log Cabin Museum. We will be selling bricks that day. We are going to have a kids’ game area back behind the village hall and I believe there are at least 15 games for them to play. ”
Admission to the beer garden is $2 per person and patrons must be 21 or older to enter. Identification will be checked at the door.
“I think it is really coming together,” Anderson said. “I am really excited for this year’s Pioneer Days.”
There are still spots for vendors. Cost is $20 if electricity or water is needed and $10 to have table space.
Shakara Blount is in charge of the vendors. She can be reached at (269) 445-7197 or kara00_04@yahoo.com.
