Just a few days before the end of the school year, fifth-grade students with Justus Gage Elementary got to spend a little time outside the classroom by taking a walk to the nearby Dowagiac Area History Museum Wednesday morning.

Gathering downstairs in the downtown museum basement, the children received a lesson in Potawatomi culture and traditions from the Pokagon Band’s Jason Wesaw, who showed off some the tribe’s clothing and jewelry to the students.

According to Museum Director Steve Arseneau, April and May are very popular times for students to visit the museum, with a visit by middle school students taking place last week.
