Visiting Portage Central swept a SMAC West Division doubleheader from Niles Tuesday.

The Mustangs defeated the Vikings 16-5 in the opening game, which lasted six innings.

Portage Central completed the sweep by scoring a run in the top of the seventh to win 3-2.

Niles (8-4) was limited to five hits in the opening game. Drew Huffman had a double for the Vikings.

The Vikings also had five hits in the nightcap.

Huffman also doubled in the second game for Niles.

Jacob Hamm and Huffman were the losing pitchers for the Vikings.

 

Niles softball

The Vikings were no match for the powerhouse Mustangs, who swept Niles 15-0 and 14-1. Both games lasted just five innings.

The Vikings had two hits in the first game and four hits in the nightcap — all singles.

Brooke Timm and Michelle Crouch took the losses in the circle for Niles.

The Vikings will host Mattawan today in baseball and softball.
