Visiting Edwardsburg won a spirited Wolverine Conference match over Dowagiac 45-27 Wednesday.

It was the first league match of the season for both teams.

The highlight match of the night came at 125-pounds were a pair of state qualifiers squared off.

Edwardsburg’s Michael Higley, who finished third at 112 in Division 2, defeated Gage Williams, who also wrestled 112 last season in Division 3, by a 7-1 decision.

Hunter Vargo (130), Jarrett Wood (160), and Blake Parsons (189) also won by decision wins for Edwardsburg.

Picking up pins for the Eddies were Bryce Guernsey (119), Patrick Snyder (135), Lucas Marks (145).

Dowagiac got pins from Nate Tackitt (140) and Mason Hiler (152), a 3-0 decision from Derek Collett (285) and forfeit wins for Kody Walker (103) and Gage Santiago (112).

Dowagiac will travel to the Gull Lake Invitational this Saturday.

Edwardsburg’s next match will be the Saturday at the Penn Super Duals in Mishawaka.
