The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) will close its Step Forward Michigan foreclosure prevention program to new applicants at the end of the month.

All homeowners in need of assistance must register at stepforwardmichigan.org/ by Dec. 31 and submit the complete application package by Jan. 31, 2016, in order to be considered on a first come, first served basis.

Applications already received will continue to be actively reviewed.

Since July 2010, the Step Forward Michigan program has assisted over 28,381 homeowners that were unemployed, underemployed, delinquent on their mortgage, property taxes, or condominium association dues, or owed more than the value of their home.

More than $253 million has been disbursed to participating mortgage lenders, counties and condominium associations. The average amount of assistance provided per household is $10,734.85.
