Feb. 2, 1947 — Oct. 20, 2015
Larry Douglas Homan Sr., 68, of Niles died on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in his home surrounded by numerous friends and family. A special thanks to his niece Yvonne Rocha, whose skill and compassion allowed him to pass in dignity and comfort.
Larry was born Feb. 2, 1947, in Reform, Alabama to the late William Jesse Homan and Willard Bee Rickman with whom he is now reunited, along with his second father, Charles “C.K.” Kyles and his sister, Willodean Homan.
Moving to Michigan as a young boy he never lost his connection to his Alabama roots and treasured the times he returned there. After honorably serving in the National Guard he spent the majority of his life working as a brick mason.
A big personality, quick wit and sense of humor endeared Larry to all who knew him. He was a son, brother, nephew, friend, husband, father, and uncle. He had many nieces and nephews who loved him, but he was called “Uncle” Larry by anyone who just needed to call him something greater than friend.
Left to remember Larry are his son, Larry Douglas Homan Jr; daughter-in-law, Tracy Homan; granddaughter, Rory Homan; sisters, Ruth “Clem” (Jim) Brown, Barbara (Gary) Reed, and Judy (Thomas “The Colonel”) Turner; and far too many family and friends to mention here, but you know who you are if your heart is heavy and the room seems a little too quiet and the laughter isn’t as rich as it was before.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. with funeral services to honor Larry’s life beginning at 4 p.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Niles.
Rest in Peace “Uncle” Larry. ROLL TIDE!
