What’s happening at the Niles District Library?

The Niles District Library will offer the following free events and activities. A library card is not needed to participate in any program.

Tuesday, Oct. 6

• 4 p.m. — The Writing Group

The Writing Group is a place for passionate writers to share their ideas and experiences with writing of all types with other passionate writers. All participants will have a chance to share their work and receive constructive criticism and tips for their writing.

 

Wednesday, Oct. 7

• Multiple times — Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., Squigglers (18 months-3 years) at 10 and 11 a.m., Storytime (3-5 years) at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

• 9-11:30 a.m. — Basket Weaving Class with Meet and Greet

Learn the craft of basket weaving from Stan Troyer, local artist whose baskets are currently on display in the library. The event will have a meet and greet with coffee and donuts from 9 to 9:30, class will start promptly at 9:30.

 

Thursday, Oct. 8

• 10 a.m. — Special Edition: Movie Day

Special Edition is a weekly series of programs designed to be particularly accessible and engaging for adults and children with special needs. Everyone is welcome.

The movie is “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

• 1 to 5 p.m. — Mahjong

Volunteers are available to teach newbies how to play. Other board games are also available.

 

Friday, Oct. 9

• 1 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

Bring your yarn or sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you chat and work. All skill levels welcome.

• 5 p.m. — Tween Book Club

Tweens ages 8 to 12 have a chance to read a great book and join a discussion every month on the second Friday at 5 p.m. This month the club be discussing “Sister’s Grimm” by Michael Buckley and copies are available at the Youth Services Desk.

 

Saturday, Oct. 10

• 10:30 a.m. — Toddler Dance Party

• 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Chess Tournament

A Chess Tournament for beginners to celebrate National Chess Day.

• 1-3 p.m. — Basket Weaving Class

Guests can learn the art of basket weaving from local artist Stan Troyer, whose baskets are currently on display in the library. Registration required.

• 1 p.m. — Jr. Garden Club

• 1-5 p.m. — Game Day for Adults
